Subject: URGENT: Veto Running Start Cuts in SB 6260

Dear Governor Ferguson,

I am writing to respectfully request that you exercise your line-item veto power on the 2026 Supplemental Budget (SB 6260). Specifically, I urge you to veto the section that reduces the Running Start funding cap from 1.4 FTE to 1.2 FTE.

Running Start is a cornerstone of educational equity in Washington. For many students in my community, this program is the only way to make a college degree financially attainable. Reducing the credit cap creates an unnecessary barrier that forces students to choose between taking on debt and delaying their education. Washington can continue to be a pioneer for students; don’t fail us now by creating Running Start cuts.

As our Governor, you have the final say in protecting this vital pathway. Please stand with Washington’s students and families by vetoing these cuts and keeping Running Start fully funded.

Sincerely,

[Your Name] [Your City/District]

TO YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVES

  • Call the legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000.

Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I'm a constituent in Issaquah. I’m calling to urge Senator [Name] and Representatives [Name] and [Name] to vote NO on the Running Start cuts in SB 6260. These cuts to credit caps will hurt local students and make college less affordable. Please protect Washington State Students by protecting Running Start; show that you care.

  • Subject: URGENT: Protect Students, Save Running Start (SB 6260)

Dear Representatives and Senator,

My name is [Your Name], and I am from Issaquah. As your constituent, I am writing to express my strong opposition to the $14 million in cuts to the Running Start program included in SB 6260.

Reducing the credit cap from 1.4 FTE to 1.2 FTE creates a financial barrier for students in our district who rely on this program to jumpstart their higher education. At a time when the cost of living in King County is soaring, we should protect programs that save families money, not cut them. Washington can be a pioneer for students, stand with your children, and stand with your students.

Please reject these cuts before the session ends tonight.

Sincerely,

[Your Name] [Your Phone Number]

THE DEADLINE: The Legislature finishes its work TONIGHT (March 12). Once they are done, the power shifts to Governor Bob Ferguson. He has the "Line-Item Veto" power to strike these cuts from the budget before he signs it.

What is a line-item veto? For budget bills (like SB 6260), the Governor has the power to cross out specific lines, dollar amounts, or individual items within a budget bill, while signing the rest of the bill into action. The Governor also has the power to total veto; in this circumstance, a total veto is highly unlikely.
